What are the steps of Ayurveda consultation?
Your consultation begins with a Health Assessment Form, which will be used by the practitioner to evaluate your current state of health. After that, Ayurvedic pulse reading and tongue analysis will be further used to evaluate whether there are any imbalances related to gut health.
Following your health assessment, pulse reading, and tongue analysis, the doctor will create a personalized plan for your particular dosha type (body and mind type).
This plan will include where you have physiological imbalances and health recommendations that will include a combination of herbal supplements, massage therapies, dietary recommendations, lifestyle changes, and mindfulness to bring your health back to a state of homeostasis.
Once your state of balance restored then you’ll be given maintenance health plan.
Do I have to live or eat Indian way after Ayurvedic consultation?
This is a big myth, because Ayurveda uses your personal dietary habits regardless of where you reside to see what foods are doing more harm then good. Nature is universal and Ayurveda uses understanding of local seasons, habitat, herbs, diet and lifestyle to provide recommendations that you can apply in accordance with your local foods. You’ll be given tips to modify the diet you are already used to eating with list of foods that you should avoid and favor based on your dosha type and imbalance.
Following an Ayurvedic consultation, how many follow up visits will be necessary?
For a healthy individual who is looking for prevention and maintenance of health one or two visits is all that is necessary. For individuals with imbalance or chronic concerns they may require more frequent follow ups.
I have heard that you have to follow a strict diet and life style guidelines for life. Is that true?
Once your state of balance is restored then you can eat normally for your dosha type to stay healthy.
Is it necessary to eat only vegetarian?
This is not necessary, while there are Ayurvedic guidelines for good and bad foods, all dietary recommendations will be based on your Dosha (body mind constitution). For example, avoiding red meat, processed foods, and sugars is generally recommended to be avoided regardless of your Dosha type, but other healthier meat like fish and chicken would be better substitutes.
I am doing an executive job and don’t have much time for cooking. Can I still incorporate Ayurveda recommendations?
You will be provided easy to follow recipes and given tips which don’t take much time, so you should be easily able to incorporate them into your diet, even with your busy job and lifestyle.
Do I have to take any herbs and for how long?
The herbal recommendations are provided on a case to case basis. Depending on your imbalance, the Vaidya will monitor your need and duration of herbal supplements. In general it can be from 4 weeks to a few months.
I am taking other prescriptions, will there be any interaction between herbs and medicines?
Ayurveda relies on diet, lifestyle and herbal supplements to synergistically work on restoring your balance and achieving better health. These recommendations don’t have any known side effects or interactions with medical prescriptions. However, we always recommend any concerns to be raised during your Ayurvedic consultation to ensure safety for your health.
Do I have to stop medicine while on herbs?
No, you will never be recommended to stop your medications, continue consulting with your physician should you have any questions or concerns.
Can I do an Ayurvedic consultation during pregnancy?
Absolutely, Ayurveda provides many useful dietary, lifestyle, and spiritual recommendations that aid in a healthy pregnancy. However, herbal recommendations will not be provided, this allows better compliance with obstetric suggestions and smooth pregnancy.
Are there any side effects of herbs?
You are only recommended dietary and herbal supplements which don’t have any known side effects or interaction.
Do I have to stay on herbs or Ayurvedic recommendations for rest of my life?
